Communicating the “big picture” to employees for increased productivity

Untitled-184

Effective communication of new company initiatives

Effective communication to employees on their roles and expectations is of essence for any organization.
Wambu Amos, an independent business consultant and I attended training at Chase bank Windsor and we were warmly welcome by the staff. They knew that there was a Kuza Biashara Chase bank partnership but did not know exactly what was required from them in making the partnership a success.

After the training, the staff was really enthusiastic about the Kuza biashara product and specifically about Zidisha. They however still did not feel very obliged to help market the product simply because there was no such formal communication on the expectations on the same.

Company changes or new initiatives work well if all employees understand what is required of them.

Work social life balance

This is the concept of prioritizing between work i.e. career and related goals with social life (the leisure, play, pleasure, health, fun and other personal jobs.)Perfectly exercising work social life balance reduces stress, produces better results and generally happy employees.

I have had a big problem balancing between work and social life. I sometimes feel like am married to my job and the stress levels associated with this soar. My friends and I had a chat with Buff on this and I learnt that working for long hours makes employees counterproductive. When one is fatigued they are bound to commit costly mistakes e. g sending wrong emails to the wrong employees.

Being unable to balance the two is likely to break most of the healthy relationships one has had before. Engaging with friends and family is important since they are ones soft landing in life.

Although balancing work and social life is a continuous challenge one must strive to achieve it. Some tips on how to balance the two include:

  • Delegate duties to colleagues’ and avoid taking up all tasks.
  • Discuss about having flexi hours with management.
  • Learn to say no in a positive way when assigned tasks that you are sure you will not be able to handle and on time.
  • Join forces with co workers who can stand in the gap for you during crisis.eg when going through family conflicts, sick or undertaking other non work related chores.
  • Seek help. Discuss your stresses with you manager, friend, colleague or a professional.
