Valentines: expectations, disappointments and chocolate

Untitled-197

They call it, the month of Love.

Tuesday the 14th of February, year 2012 and am in the office glued to the computer. It’s Valentines Day and on my way to work florists were everywhere and most women were wearing something red. If it wasn’t an outfit, it was accessories, a handbag or even hair clips. Am wearing old school rubber shoes and a t-shirt… and not paying much attention to this day called Valentines Day.
At the office its work as usual and its just me, Nikki the production assistant and Pauline. The only guy in the office, Joe is not yet here, sometime back during chrismas he was supposed to bring all the ladies in the office something for christmas. He failed to do so and he promised that he would make it up on valentines day. The previous day he was confused and very disturbed as all the ladies in the office kept pestering him on what he would be bringing them. We certainly had no issues stating exactly what we wanted . At one point I was pretty sure he would not show up to the office, but he did!

At around ten thirty, he walks into the office with his laptop bag as usual with no signs of carrying the flowers Nikki demanded or the teddy bear I wanted. I felt like laughing at first because I was prepared for this, I mean I asked for a teddy bear but I was not very serious and suspected he wouldn’t bring it anyway but it never hurts to try. Before he even sat down the ladies were like…so what did you bring for valentine, and Joe was like its still early and valentine is not yet over. Obviously this was very disappointing turn of events, I mean not even a chocolate or a card?! Everyone went back to work and it was all silent. Nikki must have felt like beating him J.

So after a few minutes of the tense silence Joe stepped out and came back with three huge envelopes and chocolate (which nikki immediately insisted was hers!) He had gotten us all valentines day cards and the chocolate, which we shared! Turns out he actually does realize the importance of keeping his workmates happy!

Yeah and that was valentine day for us or at least for me. Oooh and just a little titbit, a little birdie told me that we were the only people to receive a valentines day gift from workmates!
